Perspective Photography

You can do lots of work with your digital camera to capture the object with different perspective photography. With the same object you can shoot with different shooting angle to create different perspective photography. Commonly; beginner photography purchases a digital SLR camera with a lens kit. Lens kit is standard zoom lens which includes wide angel lens. Wide angle lens is commonly used for landscape photography; particularly for wide perspective photography views.

When your skill and knowledge about digital camera and photography have been upgraded (including the composition techniques, the exposure techniques; and the lighting techniques), you probably need more DSLR lenses – Tele lens; macro lens; fish eye lens etc depends on the budget you can afford; and more important is your strong interest in photography. Tele lens is commonly used for capturing narrow perspective photography views; and to compress the distance to get closer detail of the objects.

The perspective photography view of the lenses can be described from the bellow diagram; the focal length versus the perspective photography view. The longer the focal length is; the narrower the perspective view. The shorter the focal length is; the wider the perspective view.

You can create some variations of perspective photography by exploiting different shooting angel and position; changing lenses and at the higher level of your expertise in photography skill; you will not just shoot an object but you will combine the skills with the concept and taste to produce an artistic photography, photography with taste and character.

Wide Angel Lens

When you shoot an ordinary landscape view with a wide angle lens; you can try to find an object that will evoke a moment with the presence of this object. An ordinary view will become more dynamic and life.

This boy was boring fishing on a lake; he was just staring at the fishing rod with no luck. Without the presence of the boy; the landscape view would just be an ordinary landscape view. This is an example of wide perspective photography landscape by presenting an object to evoke a moment. The photo below is another example of the landscape view with a lower shooting angle; I had to plunge into the mud to shoot this moment.

Tele Lens

What can you do with Tele lens? With Tele lens you can compress the distance and emerge details perspective photography of an object. Tele lens is commonly used to get details of wild life animal or the birds. The cockatoo on the photo below was captured using medium Tele zoom lens Canon EF 70-200 L f4 IS. Tele lens can also create a shallow depth of field (DOF) with wide aperture and isolate the object by blurring the background.

Tele lens can also be used for still life photography. By using the same Tele zoom lens; I shot the object below by exploiting golden sun light around 7 am. By using Tele lens; detail of this Bvlgari perfume becomes impressive with the golden sun light from the back side. See also tricking the light in the exposure module.

One more important thing to remember is to always change and shift your shooting position and your shooting angle for the same object to get different kinds of perspective photography. By changing and shifting your shooting positions and or shooting angle you might get a much different result and detail of the same object. Compare the above photo that uses low shooting angle and longer focal length; with the photo below that uses high shooting angle with shorter focal length. You can see different detail perspective photography from those two photos by changing shooting angle and focal length.

If you aim to shoot a kid moment; assure to use shooting angel which your position is as high as their eyes. And assure you can evoke a moment; for example on the photo below you can capture the moment between the mother and the girl while they are playing together along the beach. You can see here that the shooting angle is low enough and the mother at the foreground affirming the great moment of perspective photography.

You can practice your creativities in perspective photography by using different lenses; different shooting angle; shifting shooting positions and capture the moment; and the ultimate result is a great photography work; a great photo that can tell certain messages; certain story.
